Students will be given the opportunity to choose which speech and/or debate events they are interested in and will be given personalized coaching to fit their skill level. Students can also have the opportunity to compete at in-person and virtual tournaments throughout the semester.

Group classes - 2 hrs per class/2 classes each week
1:1 sessions - 1.5 hrs per class/2 classes each week
Students can learn critical skills such as critical thinking, research, persuasive speaking, effective communication, and argumentation. Our classes also focus on a variety of delivery techniques, such as eye contact, vocal variety, and body language. These techniques can help to make presentations more engaging and effective.
No, students do not need any prior experience! Classes are designed to teach students all of the skills necessary to become effective public speakers, regardless of their level of experience.
Yes, a speech and debate class can be a great way to overcome a fear of public speaking. With practice and guidance, students can build confidence and develop their public speaking skills.
Students will have the opportunity to analyze effective speeches, do vocal exercises to improve presentation skills, and give constructive peer feedback. Speech classes can include various exercises like impromptu speaking, acting exercises, persuasive and informative speech writing. Debate classes can include lessons on strategy, effective research methods, impact analysis exercises, and persuasive delivery techniques.
Individuals who have taken a Speech and Debate class may pursue careers in law, politics, journalism, public relations, and business, among others. Effective communication and argumentation skills are valuable in many professions.
Participation in Speech and Debate tournaments is optional. However, many students find that competition can be a fun and rewarding way to practice and showcase their skills. There are both virtual and in-person tournaments that are offered throughout the year.
